ASSIGNMENT FOR FRIDAY APRIL 4

This time we are going to practice a style of painting that employs the techniques of German artist Elke Memmler, not unlike our practice painting in class. You won’t be able to understand Elke unless you speak German. Elke is best known as a semi-abstract floral painter. She uses several techniques involving the addition and subtraction of paint, that I like to use to create random textures in my artwork. While watching her short video you will notice various ‘playful’ techniques that should help you create your own semi-abstract floral. Start her video at 1:15 minutes, and pause her video at the very end (at about 3:20 minutes) to see her almost finished product. Try to play around, have fun, and get more comfortable at manipulating your watercolors as Elke does in her video (CLICK HERE)
